Increased UK Government funding is now available for UK Junior Officers progressing from First CoC (Unlimited) to Second CoC (Unlimited)
Some great news for those UK Junior Officers who are already, or will soon be, progressing from their First CoC (Unlimited) to Second CoC (Unlimited). The UK Government has recently announced increased financial support for UK Junior Officers through its Support for Maritime Training (SMarT) scheme, to help them progress to Chief Mate (Unlimited) or Second Engineer (Unlimited) level.
UK Junior Officers who commenced their qualifying sea service for Second CoC prior to 1st September 2022 are eligible for SMarT Level 2 funding up to £9,303 if they have completed an HNC cadetship, or up to £4,743 if they have completed an HND or Foundation Degree cadetship.
Meanwhile, those UK Junior Officers who have commenced their qualifying sea service for Second CoC since 1st September 2022 are eligible for both the SMarT Level 2 funding detailed above (i.e. up to £9,303 or £4,743, as applicable) and the Government’s new additional funding of up to £6,000 each.
Any claims by individual officers for this funding have to be made through a sponsoring company or consortia company, which has been approved for SMarT administration by the UK’s Secretary of State for Transport. Just Be Maritime Ltd. is one such approved consortia company, which is already administering funding claims on behalf of individual officers and is very happy to provide free advice to anyone who would like to pursue an associated funding claim.
