Our Recommended Yacht Qualifications During Lockdown

Although hands-on experience cannot be gained with the current coronavirus restrictions in place throughout the world, this is the perfect time for crew (new & experienced) to stay proactive with new information and skills.

New crew members and those looking to start a career in the yacht industry should search for online videos, courses and qualifications to boost their knowledge and prepare for their next chapter during this period of downtime.

Here are a few of our recommendations for gaining suitable skills and qualifications ready for when you’re back on-board:

YouTube

YouTube is an incredible source of information and a great learning tool, especially for crew and staff on-board a yacht. For a new stewardess or housekeeper, you may want to look into and practice things like cocktail making, napkin folding, and table setting, as well as a world of other relevant skills. All of which can be easily practiced and perfected within the comfort of your own home.

Find the skills that are most suitable for the role you’re after, and add that extra bit of value to your CV by mastering various skills that make you an all-rounder.

Maritime Training Academy

wilsonhalligan recommend the Maritime Training Academy as experts of distance learning courses which are well recognised within the yacht community. Courses range from brokerage courses to yacht surveying to superyacht operations, covering almost all yacht job roles.

MTA offer a 10% discount on any of their Diploma/Certificate courses to anyone registered with wilsonhalligan.

Royal Yachting Association

For those on deck looking to gain extra qualifications by distance learning, the Royal Yachting Association have several online courses currently available. Zephyr Yachting in Antibes are also running offers at this time. We would recommend talking to the team over at Zephyr to see what you can add to your portfolio of skills.

Luxury Hospitality

Luxury Hospitality, a name you may remember from a drinks event we held at Monaco Yacht Show 2019, are running two courses delivered by their team of specialists. If you are looking at building your leadership knowledge – they have the perfect course for this.

Maritime & Coastguard Agency

We know that the MCA have cancelled all oral exams, several known mentors are operating via online video for your oral rehearsal and preparation.

Stay home. Stay Focused. Stay ready.
